Tire Defect, Tire Blowout,Tread Separation & Defective Tires Attorney

Tire defects and tire failures are responsible for many motor vehicle injuries and deaths, primarily from tire tread separations and blow-outs. Many of these tire tread failures or tire belt defects lead to rollover accidents, one of the primary causes of spinal cord injury and paralysis amongst catastrophic vehicle accident survivors.

The dangers of tire defects became well known to the public starting in 2000, when Bridgestone famously recalled faulty tires that caused major accidents in Ford Explorer SUVs.

Tread Separation and other tire defects

At some point, in recent years, just about every major tire manufacturer at some point in recent years including BF Goodrich, Uniroyal, Continental and Cooper.

Tire tread separations are caused by design or manufacturing flaws in the tire tread and even in the tire itself. They have occurred since the tire industry switched to steel belted radial tires in favor of the old fashioned bias-ply tires. When they're made properly, steel belted tires indeed perform better than their older counterparts, with longer tire lifespan and better fuel economy. However, when a steel-belted radial tire loses its tread at highway speeds, they frequently result in the loss of control and vehicle rollover.

When a rear tire on a vehicle blows out it becomes very difficult to control the vehicle, this is especially true when traveling at highway speeds. This often results in the rear of the vehicle swinging around perpendicular to the direction traffic is traveling. If this yawing is not reversed immediately the sideways motion will likely lead to the tire bead separating from the rim, allowing the rim to dig into the pavement, causing the vehicle to be propelled into a roll over.

Even worse, tire failure and rollover problems are exacerbated by the high center-of-gravity vehicle design found in many popular SUVs, 15 passenger vans and light trucks.

Nevertheless, major tire manufacturers have sold or equipped new cars with tires containing any number of defects that can cause tread separation. Tread separation occurs when the outside layers of a car separate from the inner layers. The tire's tread may come off completely and wrap around vehicle parts.

Whether it was by poor design or poor construction, faulty tires have indeed forced many safe drivers into a life with paralysis. Other tire problems include tire shredding and adhesion failures.

Unfortunately, tire recalls come too late for many people. Sometimes, it's only after individuals on roadways experienced trauma that tire makers issued recalls. Still, if you're affected by a faulty tire accident, and you're left with new hardships from a spinal cord injury, you can pursue both medical and legal options.

In the U.S., we place a large burden on those who design, manufacture, and sell our products to make them as safe as reasonably possible. When tire companies don't follow government guidelines and even their own standards for tire design and manufacturing, they can be liable for the damages caused by their equipment.
